
In 1991, LayNa became the first recipient of the Malaysia MLNG Scholarship for Fine Arts award, to further her dance study at the Royal Academy of Dancing in London. During the three years, she received various awards, and was certified in Licentiate of Royal Academy of Dance (Ballet), and Licentiate of Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (Modern, Latin & American, National), as well as Labanotation Advance certificate
In 1995, she worked as a Dance Executive with the Petronas Performing Arts Department in Kuala Lumpur. In 1996, she returned to her hometown in Kuching and started her own LayNa Ballet Academy. Amid running her Academy, she completed her Degree study for Bachelor of Philosophy in Ballet and Contextual Study with the Royal Academy of Dance, validated by the University of Durham in 2000.
In 2003, she was inducted as a qualified Royal Academy of Dance Ballet Examiner in its exclusive worldwide team of slightly over 200 examiners to date. Her duties include frequent examining assignments not just throughout Malaysia but in Australia, New Zealand, Asia region, Europe, North and South America.
LayNa has choreographed numerous dance pieces, including full and half length ballet such as – “Snow White”, “Annie”, “Peter Pan”, “Peter & the Wolf”, “Anastasia”, as well as a Sarawak local production of “Life in the Jungle:” These performances have received numerous encouraging praises and commendations both from local, and international audiences.
In November 2018, LayNa relinquished her role in LayNa Ballet Academy before imparting her students to her few successors. In the 22 years of operating the school, she has groomed many brilliant dancers and dance teachers. She continues her duty in conducting Ballet examinations for the Royal Academy of Dance. She is frequently been invited to deliver trainings to dance teachers and students around the country as well as internationally. She had also been appointed as a judge role in various Ballet and dance competitions.
In Nov 2024, one of LayNa students from Penang passed RAD Solo Seal Examinations, which marked the first student trained in Malaysia to have passed such prestigious award. In a typical year, no more than 20-30 students around the world achieve such high standard award.
LayNa has been one of the Borad of Directors for Sarawak Arts Council. She is also the President of Kuching Unity Dance Association (KUDA – Persatuan Perpaduan Seni Tari Kuching).
