Frankie M Lai

Born in Hong Kong, Frankie-m Lai began his ballet training at the Jean M. Wong School of Ballet when he was nine. In 1988, he received the Tsinforn C. Wong Memorial Scholarship and a scholarship from the Alliance Francoise, to further his studies at the Conservatoire National Superiour de Musique et du Danse de Lyon in France . Three years later he became a professional ballet dancer at L‘Opera Royale de Wallonie de Liege in Belgium . In 1992, he joined the Theatre Capitale de Toulouse in France and was the first runner-up at the Youth Dance Competition in Bordeaux , France . 

Frankie-m joined Hong Kong Ballet in 1993 and was promoted to Senior Soloist in 2002. He has danced the principal roles in most of the Company’s productions including Swan Lake , The Nutcracker, La Fille Mal Gardée, The Emperor and the Nightingale, The Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella etc. He received critical acclaim as Pu Yi in The Last Emperor during the 2001 North American Tour. In 2007, he joined Suzhou Science & Culture Arts Centre (SSCAC) Suzhou Ballet Theater as Principal dancer & dancers’ captain, later on he promoted to assistant ballet master of SSCAC Suzhou Ballet Theater; he made his way back to Hong Kong and teach in Agnes Huang School of Ballet, Ulian Chun Academy of dance, Ballet Bean dancing school and City Ballet in Shenzhen until now; same time he also choregraphy for Actor Family musical ” the passage and beyond”! 

Frankie-m is an Examiner of Royal Academy of Dance  and judge of International Dance Organisation, he is the first Male Chinese who claimed this awards.
